More about the diversity calendar 2024

Why is the diversity calendar 2024 important?

Because diversity matters, every day! The more we immerse our schools into positive representation of diverse groups - the greater the school environment will be - this is a simple fact.

So how can you implement your diversity and inclusion calendar in your education establishment?

The diversity calendar includes a mixture of equality, diversity and inclusion related events and key dates. This is not intended as an exhaustive list - we welcome our community members to add to this, jot your own ideas down and send them back to us - we will update the calendar regularly with suggestions that our EDI team have selected as noteworthy. Together we are better.

How does the colour code in the diversity calendar 2024 work?

We love a good colour code, this is why we have coded ours to the strands of the equality act 2010. It is important to celebrate everyone’s contribution to society all of the time, there are far too many communities who are so quickly overlooked. We want to change that, and by actively using this diversity calendar you can start do just that!

Speaking on this, if you want this guide in any other formats such as large text, yellow background etc. Just drop us a message on the contact us form and we will do our best to meet your requirements.

Some top tips for making your diversity, equality and inclusion calendar 2024 work in your school or organisation

Equality Act

Tell Diverse Stories

Weave diverse stories into the national curriculum, there are some great organisations out there who can work with you on this (including us).

Use Technology to Promote Diversity

Use social media to your advantage, does your school have a Twitter, Instagram, Facebook page etc? Share key dates from the calendar using eye catching imagery.

Celebrate Diversity

Remember to celebrate diversity every day, not just on awareness days (whilst still understanding that celebrating awareness days is great).

Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Teach children, young people and staff about the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion being the bedrock of a good institution.

Share Resources

Share with children, young people and staff the United Nations rights of the child, we have made some handy teen friendly versions which are FREE.

Share the Diversity Calendar

Share the calendar with children, young people, parents, carers and other key stakeholders in your organisation.

Engage with Diverse Communities

The objective of this calendar is to make a school environment more inclusive, to do this we should engage with and listen to young people and staff. Invite them to contribute their ideas to key events in the diary - you might be surprised by how many are willing to help!

Make a Diversity Charter

Make a pledge to take further steps to being a more inclusive institution - we have added some ideas for you below.

The Impact of Diversity Days

Remember that the impact of these dates in the calendar will vary from person to person, be mindful that topics can bring up difficult emotions. Young people and staff should feel they have a safe space to talk about their thoughts and feelings (should they wish to).
